Readers Opinion: Ladies Night at Lola’s

I recently met a woman friend of mine for dinner at Lola’s Kitchen and Wine Bar (180 W Park Ave) on a Thursday night . While sipping my martini at the bar I noticed groups of women….from a variety of generations…coming into to Lola’s one after another. Thursday night at Lola’s is “Girls Night Out!” and what a great deal it is. On Thursday nights, Marco and his staff offer an extensive $15 dinner menu, $15 bottles of wine, $15 pitchers of Sangria, the most adorable $5 martinis and most importantly a warm, comfortable atmosphere where women can come relax and unwind with friends.

And the food was great. My friend decided on the fish(which included a salad)….ate every bite and raved. I decided on a steak quesadilla…not part of the special menu…but one of my favorite dishes at Lola’s. (and costs below $15 as well!) Eddie, the bartender, shook us up a couple of perfect martinis (my friend and I consider this a form of art!). We chose to sit and dine at the bar…from our vantage point I couldn’t help but notice the groups of women coming through the front door and filling both the bar and the dining room.

Originally, when I told my boyfriend I was going to Lola’s on a Thursday night…he said “but that’s ladies night…”

His assumption was that there would be a lot of men there looking to meet women. The night I was there…there were 2, maybe 3 men at Lola’s. Instead, what impressed me was the various ages of the women coming simply for good conversation, a good meal, and nice atmosphere all for an extremely reasonable price. All women should check out Lola’s on a Thursday…it was great.

I have a feeling, though, that as more men hear about “Girls Night Out”, they will be checking out Lola’s as well!

As a rule, I tend to agree with other reviews and assessments, but I tried that place and I wasn’t as overly impressed as you seemed to be.

I have not personally reviewed them yet, however I have heard good things. I will keep you posted when I do.

We are long beach residents who decided to check out lolas. We met a freind at the bar and 10 others were planning on meeting there. The bartendar was soooo rude and nasty ( some guy with dark hair) that all of us cancelled our food order and left the place…the manager was nice enough to inquire but we decided to go to a place we knew we would be treated nicer and visit regluarly. BIg loss for them that night. We said we would never go back but we did. Food was so/so – nothing special – much perfer Nicks, coastal and dukes….We love long beach and the people here and i was stunned how nasty this guy was…..

I had the same experience with a group I was with. We had a $400 bar bill and the bartender and waitress were so rude. Love the atmosphere, but would never go back.

We had a very similar thing happen to us at this Over Rated place.
Both at the bar and in the dining room.

I was there with my boyfriend last week. He ordered off the restaurant week menu, I off the regular menu. My simple salad was good, portion was good. He got the kung pow calamari – it was eh..if you know what I mean. Middle of the road in taste, but the presentation was not there even a little.

For dinner I had the shell steak and he had the 'Pork Porterhouse'. The steak was fine but it was a little overcooked. I ordered med rare – why is not so hard!! His Pork was alright. The real problem was that the vegetable were only warm and the potatoes were warm cool and hot all at the same time! Probably just scooped from a pan and not warmed before they plated the dishes.

The server honestly looked as if she wanted to be anywhere but there, and offered up no suggestions when we asked. She was kinda slow so we decided to skip desert even though it was included with my bf's dinner.

We were surprised because we have heard good things about them. We are not 100% against trying them again , because everyone has an off night, but we wont be rushing as there are better places in town IMHO.

Tried it twice, and it's just not my cup of tea. Or is it on my "must go back to "list.
